Threads Black Box

We’re surrounded by Threads both seen and unseen, manmade and natural. Take the very streets and highways we travel. They’re lined by power and telephone lines connected to the electrical grid. Beneath the pavement run water, sewer and gas lines. These threads including the roads are threads that connect. And then there are the seen and unseen natural threads such as streams and rivers as well as wind and the earth’s magnetic field. While invisible we can observe their effects. When it comes to the Unseen we have employed a number of aids and devices to make the invisible visible be it a windsock or whirligig, clock, voltmeter, seismometer or Black Box. This box processes an input signal and provides an output … a reading or measure. To the uninitiated or non-technical the guts of the box are a mystery. In goes “something mysterious” and out comes something we understand. The Black Box is a thread connector as is the human brain. In pop science we talk about the human body being wired: nerve networked to the spine and plugged into the brain. Threads Black Box is a series of meditations and ruminations on Robert Mirek’s Threads.
